Reasons to Use Protein Shakes to Build Muscle

One of the best ways to improve your workout is to use protein shakes to build muscle. These fantastic drinks eliminate the need to make complicated meals. They will save you time and money.

The main reason that you want a protein shake is that you will need to take in extra protein when you are lifting weights. The basic scientific principal behind this is that muscle growth requires protein. Without enough protein in your diet you simply cannot build muscles.

When you lift weights you are creating micro-tears in the fiber of your muscle. When these tears repair they become larger. What are necessary for muscle fiber repair are amino acids. These are the building blocks of what we call protein.

You can get proper protein by eating a diet high in protein rich foods such as lean red meat, chicken, fish and nuts and beans. The difficulty comes in preparing these meals. Most people simply do not have the time to prepare a complicated meal that is nutritionally adequate.

The great thing about a protein shake is that you can take it at any time of the day. If you are going to do your workout in the morning you would be able to have a protein shake immediately afterward. It is unlikely that you would feel comfortable sitting down to a heavy breakfast of chicken or a huge egg white omelet. This makes the protein shakes a much more convenient method of getting immediate protein into your diet.

Ayurveda: Body, Mind, and Soul

As a science of self-healing, Ayuveda encompasses diet and nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, rest and relaxation, meditation, breathing exercises, and medicinal herbs, along with cleansing and rejuvenation programs for healing body, mind, and spirit. Numerous adjunct therapies such as sound, color, and aromatherapy may also be employed.

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word means ” the science of life and longevity” According to this science, every individual is both a creation of cosmic energies and a unique phenomenon, a unique personality. Ayurveda teaches that we all have a constitution, which is our individual psychobiological makeup.

From the moment of conception, this individual constitution is created by the universal energies of Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

These five elements combine into the three fundamental energies or doshas. Ether and air constitute vata, which is the energy of movement; fire and water constitute pita, the principle of digestion or metabolism, the transformation of matter into energy; and water and earth make up kapha, the energy of structure and lubrication. When the male sperm and the female egg join at the time of fertilization, the vata-pitta-kapha factors from the parents’s bodies that are most active and predominant at the moment, due to the season, the time, the emotional state, and the quality of their relationship, form a new individual with a particular constellation of qualities.

How to Safely Use Rose Geranium Essential Oil

Just like anything else, it is important to realize that Pure Essential Plant Oils are not a panacea, a pill to cure all that just happens with out wisdom and knowledge. It is however an easy approach to a layman’s way of enhancing health, and mitigating pain and illness. There are important guidelines to follow. I will list a few directly from The Essential Oils Desk Reference. This book is a must if you are going to get serious about non chemically altered natural healing methods. Each of the bullet items below are a direct quote from the book.

Always keep a bottle of pure vegetable oil handy when using essential oils. Vegetable oils dilute oils if they cause discomfort or skin irritation.

Keep oils out of reach of children. Treat them as you would any product for therapeutic use.

Oils rich in menthol (such as peppermint) should not be used on the throat or neck area of children under 30 months of age.

Keep bottles of essential oils tightly closed and store them in a cool location away from light. If stored properly, they will maintain their potency for many years.

Pregnant women should always consult a healthcare professional when starting any type of program.

Epileptics and those with high blood pressure should consult their healthcare professional before using essential oils. Use caution with hyssop, fennel, basil, Wintergreen, Rosemary, peppermint, Sage, tarragon, and Tansy oils.

People with high blood pressure should avoid using large amounts of sage and rosemary.

Eating Disorders: What Is This Separating ED From My Anorexic Daughter About?

If you are new to Maudsley you might be thinking, “This separating ED from my child seems a bit hokey. Is this some sort of multiple personality thing?” The answer to this is no and I’ll tell you why.

In reality separating the ED from your child is the same thing you do when your child exhibits inappropriate behavior like hitting a sibling. You separate your child from his behavior. Your child’s behavior is “bad” so to speak, but your child is not “bad.”

The same is true when your child has an eating disorder. You learn to observe and identify your child’s anorexic thinking and behavior. She comes to the table grumpy and refusing to eat anything but salad. This is eating disorder thinking and behavior. This is not your child’s normal thinking and behavior.

You see a change in your child in a variety of situations.
• During a meal
• Before or after a meal
• At a restaurant
• At a friend’s house

Over time you get really adept at identifying ED behavior. Okay so you can identify it, now what? Once you are able to sense the behavior changes you are better able to keep your own emotions in check.

You can say to yourself, “He is not doing this on purpose or to be difficult. He is under the influence of the ED. The ED is dictating what he can and cannot eat.” He is hearing in his mind things like, “You can’t eat that, it has too much fat in it. If you eat that you have to do 500 sit ups tonight. They just want you to be fat so don’t eat that.”

Children Are Getting Weaker

Recent research published in the Acta Paediatrica journal by Daniel Cohen has highlighted concern that children today are able to do less physically than children the same age were able to do ten years ago, suggesting that they are weaker with less muscle mass.

Dr Gavin Sandercock, a children’s fitness academic at Essex University and researcher at London Metropolitan University investigated the strength of approximately three hundred ten year olds in 2008 and compared them with a similar number of ten year olds in 1998. All records were taken from children sampled in the same area and from the same type of schools. Results showed that the group of ten year olds in 2008 could do seven less sit-ups in thirty seconds than the group in 1998 and they had 26% less arm strength and 7% less grip strength. Furthermore, one in twenty children could not hold their own weight in 2008 whereas it was only one in ten who could not do so in 1998 which is indicative of a reduction in upper body strength endurance.

These measures focused on upper body strength, but standing long jumps which is a test of lower body strength indicated that the more recent group of children were better, so it’s not all bad news when it comes to the health of our children and researchers are not sure as to why there is this incongruity. There were no significant differences in stature and Body Mass Index (BMI) between the two groups suggesting that the more recent group of children probably have more fat and less muscle than the group ten years earlier. However other studies have shown that children are in fact becoming heavier due to more sedentary lifestyles.
